The LTO Desktop Drive from Fujitsu is an entry-level component into the tape backup and is available with LTO-4, LTO-5 or LTO-6 technology. The models can be attached to various open system servers via the SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) interface.
The LTO Desktop drive with the LTO-6 technology typically provides a transfer rate of 1.44 TBph and can store 6.25 TB onto a single LTO-6 cartridge, assumed an improved compression rate of 2.5.
For customers still using older tape technologies, the LTO-6 technology will offer a significant return on investment opportunity by reducing backup time and the number of tapes needed, and also provides substantial features for long-term data protection.
Tape remains a key component of the data center and is ideally suited for long-term data protection. The successful path taken in the tape storage sector is continued with the sixth generation of the Linear Tape Open (LTO) standardized drive technology. The performance, capacity and reliability of the LTO tape technology meet current and future requirements. Native encryption and WORM capability offer customers the security features needed for compliance and privacy initiatives. Thanks to backwards compatibility the LTO technology offers a very high investment protection.
