Remote Snap is array-based functionality that provides remote replication on the HP Storage and HP arrays. Remote Snap is a form of asynchronous replication that replicates block-level data from a volume on a primary system to a volume on the same system or on a secondary independent system. The secondary system may be at the same location as the first, or it may be located at a remote site. A replication from a volume on a system to another volume on the same system is a local replication; a replication from a volume on one system to a volume on another, separate, system is a remote replication, no matter the location of the primary or secondary system. Remote Snap uses the snapshot functionality of the array to replicate the block-level data, only replicating blocks that have changed since the last replication, thereby providing efficient replication.
